About JeanTylerGabriel

"Chess is eminently and emphatically the philosopher's game."
~Paul Morphy

You can't learn if you don't play.

Losing at chess is learning about chess.

"When you are lonely.  When you feel yourself an alien in the world.  Play chess.  This will raise your spirits and be your counselor in war."
~Aristotle

“To know ten thousand things, know one well.”
“The important thing in strategy is to suppress the enemy's useful actions but allow his useless actions.”
“To become the enemy, see yourself as the enemy of the enemy.”
~Miyamoto Musashi "A Book of Five Rings: The Classic Guide to Strategy"

The best way to improve your chess game is to lose... and learn from your mistakes.

It appears that chess is not about who makes the best moves; but who makes the least mistakes.

I respect & admire players who do not resign or accept/offer a draw. As they are aware of the simple fact that prior to the checkmate, an opponent can make a mistake; be that blundering away a piece, losing on time, or falling victim to a stalemate/draw.

Sacrifice what you have to achieve what you need.

The aesthetically elegant game wins most gracefully and often.

The Evans Gambit is by far the greatest opening that white can play. Should black accept the gambit, white gains tempo; in the event that black declines the gambit, white gains tempo. When white, the side that already begins the game with tempo gains tempo over black in the opening, there really isn't anything white can do BUT win.

Chess is simple; Life is hard.
